At Southern Tier Veterinary Associates, we take our jobs very seriously and try to provide a loving environment for our patients and the people who care for them. We understand that your pets are your family and treat each one as if they were one of our own. We are a companion animal hospital that will provide services of the highest quality.
Our promise to you...
We, the doctors and staff at Southern Tier Veterinary Associates, make a promise to you that we will love and respect each of your animals. We will do this, and at the same time provide the very best medical options that are available. We will do our best at honoring the emotional bond that you have with your pet because we too have pets of our own that we love dearly.
Our Philosophy...
There is one word that sums up the theory behind the way our doctors practice medicine -- diagnostics. This means that the doctors try to form a diagnosis before they begin any treatment. Discussing the problems and listening to answers given by you help the doctors a great deal in this process. This is why we believe it is important for you to be involved in the care and decision making that follows diagnosis. It is necessary that we work as a team to aid the healing of your pets.
Accreditation
Valley Animal Hospital, Southern Tier Veterinary Associates, is an accredited member of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Less than 12% of the small animal veterinary facilities in the USA and Canada qualify for membership in this prestigious association. In order to receive this honor, we volunteer the hospital for inspection every 3 years and must meet the high standards set by AAHA. We maintain a rigid set of requirements in all areas such as: hospital operation, correct medical record keeping, pharmacy, pathology, diagnostic imaging, anesthesiology, dentistry, nursing care, and emergency services. If you would like more information about AAHA, visit their website.
Admissions
We offer many different ways to accommodate your busy schedule and your pet's needs. The following are some guidelines that help us to keep things running smoothly.
- Call ahead for appointments with the doctors or technicians and for reservations for medical observation (boarding). If it is an emergency and you do not have time to call, try to have someone else call with as much information as possible. Emergency patients are triaged and the most critical cases are seen first.
- Admission time for surgeries/procedures is between 8 am and 9 am Monday through Friday.
- Observation patients (boarding) may be admitted and/or discharged between 8 am and noon and 1 pm until closing Monday through Friday and 9 am to noon Saturday.
- Please call after 10:15 am when checking on a hospitalized pet. This allows the doctors and technicians time to examine patients and discuss the necessary treatments and plans.
- Visiting is permitted for most hospitalized patients, depending on the illness and/or treatment. Visiting will not be recommended if it might interfere with the healing process. Please call ahead to make sure this is right for your pet and to schedule the time.
- Please be sure to call ahead for refills on prescriptions. This will help us to have the medication(s) ready for you and decrease your waiting time.
- Click Here to view and print our New Client Form to bring with you on your first visit.
All patients that require hospitalization must be current on vaccinations. This way we can protect your pets as well as the ones already with us.
We care about your pets and their safety is important to us, so please have them on a leash or in a carrier!
Our Facility
In 1960, the beginnings of Southern Tier Veterinary Associates were in motion. Starting out simply as Animal Clinic, the building and the business grew in no time. In 1967, we became Valley Animal Hospital. In 2006 the hospital name was changed to reflect our growth and continued observation of superior veterinary medicine, becoming Southern Tier Veterinary Associates. A few days after the July '06 flood we broke ground for a new hospital. On march 3rd of 2007 we moved into the new building and, on March 5th,opened the doors. The old hospital building was demolished in early May 2007, and the parking lot was paved soon after.
Our new facility has many new features that excite us. There is a dedicated dental area that offers dental x-rays and digital imaging of the mouth for pre and post treatment comparisons, and monitoring of changes. We also have computerized dental charting. Also, a dedicated feline facility that has separate air handling, litter box compartments that are separate from the sleeping and eating area, multi-level availability and environmental enrichment for cats such as windows that look out over a garden. Our waiting room is 7 times the size of the one in the old building, the laboratory is twice the size, and we have a conference room for daily rounds and weekly staff training meetings to make sure the staff is up to date on medical knowledge and the best customer care. We are in the process of computerizing all of our medical records. Our exam rooms are also larger, and each has a computer connected to our network so that electronic medical records can be updated during appointments. Our operating room is larger, and is specifically designed to be a sterile working environment, with easy access to supplies, monitoring, and now features the latest in radio surgery minimizing blood loss and tissue trauma. We also have the most advanced digital otoscopy instrumentation and software.
