MedRx Video Vetscope
 |
We have taken another step toward providing the best medical care for your pet by upgrading our MedRx Vetscope. Our previous MedRx gave us a great advantage over many ear problems that our patients face. However, we decided that it was time (after 5 years) to upgrade to the newest MedRx equipment and the latest technology software that came with it. |
The MedRx handpiece is a camera that allows us to look into ears, mouths, and eyes in ways that would be otherwise difficult or impossible. Through a channel in the handpiece, we can flush deep down to the eardrum which is difficult, if not impossible, to do by conventional methods. Small tumors and polyps can be removed through the handpiece channel. We can also apply medication directly at the source of the problem, rather than hoping that by gravity it gets deep enough. A thorough ear examination and flush is performed under general anesthesia and takes approximately 1 hour to perform. Many problems can be eradicated in one treatment, but some pets may have to have the procedure repeated up to several times.
The new MedRx gives us the advantage of a slimmer handpiece allowing us access to even smaller spaces. The handpiece is also more user friendly and is facilitated by a new unit for flushing and suctioning. This allows us to examine the ears, treat infections, and if needed, take samples for biopsy.
The software that we received with the new equipment is the very latest. We are the first clinic to apply it. This software allows us to take digital images and videos during a MedRx procedure and put them into the patient's electronic medical record. This makes it easier to track the progress of a patient, and allows us to show owners what we found and accomplished during one of or a series of procedures. These images are also readily available if the patient is transferred or a consultation is needed for the condition. Digital images also make it possible to document the results of a dental procedure and monitor many conditions of the skin, eyes, etc, and how they progress over time..
Radiowave Surgery
After over ten years of utilizing the Ellman Surgitron Vet-Surg radiowave technology for minor surgical procedures, skin treatments, and oral/gum surgery, we are proud to announce the acquisition of the next generation of radiowave (RAVE) technology, the Ellman Surgitron 4.0 dual RF digital unit.
These units use high freqency, low temperature radiowaves to cut and to control bleeding. This allows for shorter anesthesia times, a shorter healing time, faster return to function, and often allows the patient to go home the same day as surgery. The patient also has the benefit of less pain, less swelling, less blood loss, less risk of infection, and no burning. Unlike electrocautery units or lasers the ground plate Ellmans cannot promote thermal burns to the patient. Many pathologists find the minimal tissue edge damage resulting from RAVE surgery allows improved biopsy analysis. |
